Search Diagnostic

Applying, but not getting interviews? Let's find the bottleneck.

Somewhere between hitting apply and getting the call, your search is getting stuck. I go through the applications you've actually sent, find where it's happening, and show you what to change.

Where searches get stuck

It's rarely everything. It's usually one of these.

1

The roles you're going for

2

What a recruiter sees in the first ten seconds

3

How your application reaches a person

4

What happens after the first conversation

Fix the wrong one and nothing changes.

Why it's gone quiet

Silence tells you something. It just doesn't tell you what.

Most people answer no replies by sending more applications. If the bottleneck sits earlier in the process, more applications just means more silence.

You're screened out before a person reads you

A no within a couple of days usually isn't a verdict on your career. It's a filter. Knowing which one changes the roles you go for.

Your CV and LinkedIn tell different stories

Hiring managers look at both. If every application tells a slightly different story, you come across as a different candidate each time.

Your applications aren't reaching people

At senior level, interviews usually start with a conversation, not a portal. Most searches barely use that route.

How I find it

1

You send one pack

Your CV, LinkedIn, tracker and up to five real applications, with the exact CV and letter you sent.

2

I read it like the recruiter

Hard gates first, then a weighted match against each job. Every finding is tagged as evidence or judgement, so you know what to trust.

3

You get the diagnosis

A written report: your barriers ranked, each application explained, and what to keep, stop and test.

4

You test the fix

A 30-day plan that changes one thing at a time, so you learn which fix actually moved the numbers.

What you get back

Not a list of CV tweaks. A clear answer to why you're not getting interviews.

And whether your CV is even the problem.

Your barriers, ranked

What's stopping you, ordered by how strong the evidence is.

The hiring-side read

Each application: what the employer needed, and what they saw.

Your career score

Six weighted categories, and the pattern your career falls into.

CV and LinkedIn check

Where they contradict each other, and what a recruiter searching for you finds.

Keep, stop, test

Clear calls on which roles, channels and habits to change.

A 30-day plan

Built to test the changes, with a baseline to measure against.

Find the bottleneck. Or fix it too.

Who reads your search

Fifteen years on the hiring side. Now on yours.

Jay Andrew Odeka, founder of Outerview

I'm Jay. I've spent my career deciding who gets through the door. I read your search the way I'd read a candidate for a client: what gets through, what gets screened out, and why.

500,000+CVs reviewed from the hiring side
300+placements across 100+ companies
  • Trained as a solicitor. Trained to separate evidence from assumption.
  • A built method. The same scoring I use to screen candidates for clients.

What to send

One folder. The real thing.

The report is only as good as what you send. The most common mistake is sending your current CV instead of the one you actually submitted.

1

A short intake form

Target roles and markets, right to work, pay range, and what you think is going wrong.

2

Your CV and LinkedIn

Your current CV, your LinkedIn link and a PDF export of your profile.

3

Your search so far

Your tracker, or a rough count of applications, time spent and responses.

4

Up to five real applications

The job ad as text, the exact CV and letter you sent, any outreach, and every reply with its date.

Straight answers

Is this just a CV review?

No. The CV is one input. Most of the time the problem is which roles you choose and how you reach them. Sometimes the CV is fine and a rewrite would be wasted money. The diagnosis tells you which.

What happens to my data?

It's used only for your diagnostic. Please remove other people's email addresses and phone numbers before you send. Read our privacy policy for how your information is handled and retained.

I'm applying abroad and need a visa. Can you help?

I'll show how your status affects the way employers read you, and how to handle it in your applications. I don't give immigration advice: for your eligibility, you'll need a regulated adviser.

What if I don't keep a tracker?

That's fine. Give me your best estimate of applications, time spent and responses. The five real applications matter more.
