My Story

I started my career as a trainee solicitor.

Good firm. Good money. The kind of job you tell people about at dinner and they nod approvingly. I was, by every external measure, doing well.

I was also quietly miserable.

Not dramatically. I wasn't having a breakdown or staring out of windows. Just the steady, low-level realisation that I was winning a game I'd never actually chosen to play. That the career I'd built looked exactly right on paper and felt completely wrong in practice.

I walked away and went into recruitment. Ten plus years ago. I built Wundertalent, placed hundreds of professionals into SaaS startups, Tech ScaleUps, Fintech, Professional Services, Martech, Healthtech and much more, and reviewed more than 250,000 CVs in the process.

And from that side of the table, I watched the same thing happen to talented people over and over again.

They'd optimise everything: better CV, more networking, sharper interview prep. Without ever stopping to ask the strategic question underneath all of it: is this actually the right direction? Am I building something I want, or something that looks good to other people?

Most were drifting. Not failing. Drifting. Successful enough that nobody raised a flag. Unfulfilled enough that Sunday evenings felt heavy.

How I Work

I'm not a therapist, a motivational speaker, or a cheerleader.

I know what hiring managers look for, why good candidates get overlooked, how salary conversations actually work, and what separates the professionals who build careers they're proud of from those who drift into ones they tolerate. I can help with the nuances, the little things that build together to build the big picture...

Most career coaches give you tactics. A better CV. Interview frameworks. Networking scripts.

Tactics are fine. But tactics without strategy are just busy work. If you're optimising the wrong direction, getting better at the process just gets you to the wrong place faster.

Outerview starts with the strategic question.

Where are you actually going? What's the real pattern holding you back? What are you worth, specifically, evidentially, articulably? What needs to change?

Then we build the evidence. Then we build the plan. Then we work on the conversations.

Honest feedback when it's uncomfortable. Practical tools you can use immediately. And the insider knowledge that comes from 10 years of placing people, knowing what the person on the other side of the table is actually thinking.

  • You don't need a passion to have a great career. You need to know your value, know your direction, and know how to articulate both under pressure.
